Clannad Tour Manager Leon Brennan’s funeral mass hears of his love for the family

Leon Brennan’s funeral mass heard how he shared a unique bond with his family throughout his life, not only musically but also emotionally.

r Brennan, Clannad’s tour manager for over 35 years, died at his home in Dublin on Friday.

He was buried earlier today after a beautiful music-filled funeral mass at St Mary’s Chapel in Derrybeg.

Father Brian Ó Fearraigh remembered Leon as a man who had a big heart filled with kindness and who always put others first.

Family was everything to Leon and it was normal for him to be surrounded by that same family when he died.

His funeral mass heard about his great loves, including sports, as well as his family.

These were symbolized by the offering gifts including a Gweedore Celtic shirt, a Donegal shirt, a laminate to reflect his organizational skills in his work with Clannad and of course, a wedding photo of himself and his wife Anne who married in March 2000.

The congregation was amused to learn how Leon lost his wedding ring while on Gola Island off the Donegal coast in August.

However, upon discovering where the ring had been purchased, a family member had recently replaced it.

Music was provided by Daniel O’Donnell who sang “You Raise Me Up” while Maireád Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan accompanied him on violin.

Clannad and Cormac de Barra also performed during the mass which was watched by thousands of people online.

Father O Fearraigh said it was possible to fall into the abyss of despair and despair, especially at Christmas.

However, he said that Leon wouldn’t want people to feel sad and remember that Leon went to the other side.

“We are a people of hope. Leon was a man of faith and his faith was amazing,” he said.

Mr. Brennan is survived by his wife Ann, his son Leon, his daughter Anna, his mother “Baba” Máire Ní Bhraonáin, his sisters Máire, Deirdre, Eithne, Olive and Brídín, his brothers Ciarán, Pól and Bartley, his beautiful -mother Nell Fitzgerald and her extended family and friends.

He was buried in his birthplace of Gaoth Dobhair in the nearby cemetery of Machaire Gathlán.
