EmiSunshine tour manager seriously injured in car crash

Knoxville, Tenn. (WATE) – Stopping at a red light, John “Bones” Antus suffered fractured ribs and bleeding brains.

Antus has worked as a tour manager for singer-songwriter EmiSunshine for about five years. He is on the bus traveling with the group for every event, but is also present for their family vacation.

“We have more than just a business relationship, I’m with their family several days a week,” Antus said. “I’m their northern family, it’s like ying and yang.”

With the touring season being slow at this time of year, Antus landed a part-time job at the Stillhouse Tavern in Bearden. On his way home from work on January 23, he was pulled into a red light near Cedar Bluff.

“My car looks like shredded metal,” Antus said.

He was first taken to Parkwest Medical Center where doctors performed a CT scan on Antus’ head. After realizing he had brain bleeds, he was rushed to the University of Tennessee emergency center to be placed in the trauma ward.

“They were fabulous, all the doctors and trauma specialists,” Antus said. “They took care of me there.”

After several hours of hospitalization, another CT scan was performed. The bleeding from Antus’ brain had stopped. Unfortunately, he still has a few fractured ribs.

Antus adds that having fractured ribs presents difficulty with normal daily activities such as coughing, sneezing and even getting out of bed.

Doing his best to recover, he hopes to return to work soon. Doctors expect Antus’ wounds to heal slowly, but there is no set timeframe for his recovery yet.

Jill Kuhl, a close friend from her hometown of Long Island, NY, started a GoFundMe to help with Antus’ recovery and medical bills. The GoFundMe has a goal of $10,000. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can do so at https://bit.ly/3IDJhfE
