Get on the right track with Trolley Operator, Tour Guide courses

EAST HAVEN, CT —Have you always wanted to operate the Shore Line Trolley Museum carts and help bring history to life for our visitors? We have two very exciting opportunities that may be of interest to you!

1) The Truck Operator Training Course is a comprehensive program with 4 weeks of combined on-site and online instruction. You’ll receive hands-on training in using the carriages and managing all aspects of the railroad, along with historical information and public speaking skills. After passing your final exam and your “road test” (it’s like when you got your driver’s license, except there is no direction!), you will complete your training with at least 3 days on-the-job training during our operating season. Then you will join our all-volunteer operating staff, who collectively keep the railway rolling for the enjoyment of visitors young and old.

2) The Trolley Tour Guide program is for those who enjoy interacting with the public, but do not desire the more intense mechanical instruction on the operation of the trolley. The course lasts 2 weeks on site, to discover the museum and practice interaction with the public, and 1 additional online session. After the training, you will be paired with an experienced volunteer before “going solo”.
The operator training course will take place on Saturdays March 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the museum, with the final exam on April 2. You must be 18 or turn 18 during the 2022 operating season to take the course in 2022.

There is no charge for this course, but all participants must be museum members with paid membership for 2022.

Included are print and online training materials, an engraved name tag and an engraved brass hat badge with a personal member number.

The tour guide course will take place at the museum on Saturday April 23 and Saturday May 7. This course is open to children under 18 with parental consent.

Places in both classes are limited, so don’t delay, register today! To visit www.shorelinetrolley.org
