Amy “Amy G.”

The event will preview the 30-minute episode and feature more fun – including performances by the UC Davis Marching Band and cheerleaders – in a live broadcast from UC Davis Health Stadium and other surveillance nights on campus and in Davis.

The event will be hosted from the stadium by Amy Gutierrez ’95, the San Francisco Giants ambassador known to fans as Amy G. Special guests will be Chancellor Gary S. May and co-creator and host from the Alex Boylan series, which won the CBS award Amazing race in 2002 and now produces and hosts television and web shows. The night before will also include discussions with the 10 students and alumni who shared their experiences with UC Davis in the episode. Also expect to see Gunrock.

To attend the virtual event, Free registration. Due to COVID-19 protocols, stadium admission is limited to a small number and by invitation only, but campus units and Aggies are encouraged to hold their own watch nights. As September 26 approaches, hosts will be able to download a kit to help them add an Aggie touch to their events. The organizers of the Office of Strategic Communications promise not only promotional giveaways, but also “some surprises.”

Those who join in the festivities can watch not only the featured attendees of the episode (see Dateline’s story earlier for a list), but also other UC Davis professors, staff and students captured by the camera. There will also be opportunities to interact via social media.

The UC Davis episode is in the second season of the streaming series, born during the pandemic to help students and their families virtually visit campuses. It’s slated to be available in November via Amazon Prime Video and the show’s own channel on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and more. (It’s already available on The College Tour app.)

The video highlights panoramic aerial views of the campus; shows Kyla Kessler, co-captain of the women’s gymnastics team, doing backflips in the stadium; takes viewers inside the stable and up close with kids; presents campus icons; and visit the Davis Farmers Market.

As the Aggies share their personal stories, they highlight important aspects of an education at UC Davis, including the breadth and rigor of academics, community building, hands-on learning opportunities, and Moreover.
