Now explore Sharjah in the metaverse; get help from robot tour guide
Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Trade and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), unveiled the “SharjahVerse” and “Shj AI Guide – Robot” projects, at the Sharjah Government Pavilion at GITEX Global 2022.
The new project will allow tourists, residents and visitors to explore the emirate of Sharjah in the virtual universe.
SCTDA created a highly realistic metaverse ecosystem using a combination of real-world 3D videography and advanced generative AI.
Currently in the first phase of this project, SCTDA will feature selected destinations and attractions on the metaverse. Tourism-related non-fungible tokens (NFTs) will also be created. The platform will soon be online on the official SCTDA website and will be accessible from most devices. It is planned to further develop this project. New phases and developments of the project will be announced soon.
The “Shj AI Guide – Robot”, a virtual tour guide service that will provide interactive answers to questions, is integrated with AI technology in robot form to provide a range of information about the emirate, including tourist destinations, services and offers.
The guide responds to voice and written messages in five languages - Arabic, English, German, Russian and Chinese. In addition, it offers a 24-hour service and provides information, images and videos on destinations and contact details for tourist guides and directions to tourist destinations.
The intelligent robot tour guides, which will be employed in various local and international events as part of the second phase of the project, were launched at Gitex 2022.
In the third phase, which is expected to start in 2023, a special platform will be launched to educate tourists about the smart tour guide and reveal ways to benefit from its presence in more than 80 sites in the emirate.
2024 will see the launch of the fourth phase, where the various services of the authority will be integrated within the smart tourist guide, including the services of Sharjah hotel establishments and safari vehicles.
Announcing the launch of these projects, Al Midfa said, “Advanced technologies offer great opportunities to boost and improve the tourism sector. With the accelerating pace of technical advancements, AI technologies are impacting every aspect of the tourism industry, from welcoming and serving customers, responding to inquiries and analyzing their preferences, to updating the progress of the tourism sector with accurate data to better serve customers.
